A50 PROJECT REPORT / A50 Committee Mail

Epilogue

One Month After 9-11:
A Message to the People of America

As part of A50's initiative, a goodwill Caravan was dispatched to various areas in the U.S. However, during the course of the program, the terrorist attacks occurred, and the finale with all A50 Caravan participants scheduled to regroup in Washington, DC on September 14 was canceled. Yet, all of the participants mourned the many victims of the terrorist attacks and returned back to Japan with a deep resentment of terrorism in their hearts.
Afterwards, A50's Executive Committee Chair Mr. Yoshio Okawara stated,
"Although A50's final commemorative project was interrupted due to terrorism, the strong bond between the people of the U.S. and Japan was not broken and I hope that the deep sorrow that we shared will make our ties even stronger. I would like to share this sentiment with the people of the U.S." As a result of considering various ideas, we selected to place a message in the form of a large ad in the only nationally circulated newspaper in the U.S., USA Today.
